Donner Aquatic Center closing early for the season

Donner Aquatic Center at Columbus’ Donner Park will close early for the season, with the last day of operation for the general public Sunday, July 17, the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department announced Wednesday.

The early closure is necessary to make significant repairs. The Columbus Parks and Recreation Board in May awarded a $996,000 contract to the RL Turner Corp. of Zionsville for major maintenance and renovation of the pool. At the time the contract was approved, the city said the extensive work could shorten the summer season at the pool.

“We understand that the pool is a valuable asset to the community during the warm summer months, but these repairs are necessary to ensure that we can continue operations for years to come,” the parks department said in announcing the shortened pool season. Closing early now will allow the pool to open in 2023 with the maintenance program completed, the parks department said.

The parks department said 2022 Aquatics season pass holders will be notified by the email that is on the household account about early closure. Partial pass refunds will be issued upon request, by calling Donner Center at (812) 376- 2680. The refund amount is based on usable number of days left in the season.

For questions, email [email protected] with the subject, “pool construction” and a member of the staff will respond, the parks department said.
