Muncie man arrested for OWI causing death following investigation of Jan. 1 fatal accident

COLUMBUS, Ind. — A Muncie driver has been charged and arrested with operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death after the continuing investigation into a Jan. 1 accident near the 59.5 mile marker on northbound I-65.

Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies were sent to a personal-injury crash there at 1:29 a.m. Jan. 1 where they located multiple victims, including a 40-year-old female who was dead at the scene.

Marcus Abram, 26, Muncie, was one of the drivers involved in the crash. Abram admitted to deputies that he had been drinking earlier that night but refused testing, deputies said.

Deputies obtained a search warrant for a blood draw and Abram was not arrested the night of the incident.

Members of the Fatal Accident Reconstruction Team concluded that Abram was traveling over 100 mph prior to striking a vehicle that was pulled over in the median, deputies said. Blood test results showed Abram to be three times the legal limit at the time of the crash, deputies said.

On July 11, 2022, the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office officially charged Abram with:
–Operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death
–Operating a vehicle while intoxicated – with a previous conviction
The court issued a warrant for Abram’s arrest.
On July 15, 2022, ILP (Intelligence Lead Policing) Unit contacted the Noblesville Police Department for assistance in locating Abram. Although NPD was unable to locate him, they did make contact with family members and Abram turned himself in to the Bartholomew County Jail that evening. He has since bonded out.
