Hauser soccer season is a go

When boys soccer practice begin at the beginning of this month, Hauser had fewer than the 11 players needed to field a team.

The Jets had to pull out of the Morristown Jamboree on Saturday and cancel its season-opener with Southwestern (Hanover) on Tuesday. The season was in jeopardy.

But thanks to an influx of athletes deciding to join the team over the past couple of weeks, Hauser is going forward with the season. The Jets have 18 players, nearly double what they had at the first week of practice.

“We are having a team due to a group of senior athletes from other sports stepping out of their comfort zone to try a new sport,” Hauser coach Barry Grimes said. “They are competitors and are improving at a high rate daily.”

Some of the senior athletes that have joined the team are Hannah Taylor and Reagan Johnson from the Jets softball team that reached the final four in Class A this spring. Also new to the sport and to the team are baseball players Owen McIntyre and Nathan Worland and basketball and tennis player Alex Bower. Freshman Tucker Artis also has made big strides.

Hauser has postponed home games scheduled for Saturday with Southwestern (Shelby) and Tuesday with Jac-Cen-Del. Their first game likely will be Aug. 25 at Knightstown, and the first scheduled home game is Sept. 1 against Trinity Lutheran.
