Turning Point, Centra plan to ‘Raise the Roof with Rick’

Turning Point Domestic Violence Services and Centra Credit Union are partnering for a parking lot party in which Rick Silvers, Centra CEO and president, will climb on top of the Washington Street Centra building to raise money for Turning Point.

The event, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 16, has a goal of raising $20,000 to benefit Turning Point Emergency Residential Shelter services and programs.

Raise the Roof with Rick: Securing Safety for Survivors will host an array of family-friendly activities, fun, and opportunities to give between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. The morning will begin with donuts and coffee at 8 a.m., followed by the Mexico Grill food truck, in partnership with Heritage Fund, and the N &B Lemonade Stand from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by Zwanzigz beer and pizza from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Activities will include music from Qmix 107.3, giveaways, games, and a cornhole tournament to begin at 6 p.m.

Silvers will be in communication with well-wishers, while atop the downtown Centra offices.

Silvers has shown his support and reason for spending 12 hours atop a roof in a previous statement.

“Those that know me well know that I have a strong dislike for heights and an even stronger disdain for ladders. So why was I willing to climb on top of a two-story building without a harness? Simply put, domestic and dating violence have no place in our community,” he said. “Likely, all of us have been impacted by this concern in some way, some more closely than others, and I am committed to doing my part to create awareness of the issue. While I intend to have some fun basking in the hopefully not-too-hot sun, the seriousness of this issue is something that I hope we can all rally around.”
