Bull Dogs blank Patriots

TERRE HAUTE — Columbus North coach Kendal Hammel mixed up the lineup, but the eighth-ranked Bull Dogs still won all five matches in straight sets in a 5-0 Conference Indiana win Saturday at Terre Haute North.

Hank Lin blanked James Belman 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Darren Li beat Connor Bishop 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Austin Clark topped Gabriel Dunbbar 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles for the Bull Dogs (7-1, 2-0).

Columbus North’s Amrit Kar and Anvay Atram downed John Lee and Peyton Lintzenich 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Parth Shah and Toki Murabatashi defeated Cole Marts and Oliver Smith 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Eagles finish third

NASHVILLE — Brown County finished third in its Steve Makurat Invitational on Saturday. Brownstown Central won with 11 points to nine for Greencastle, three for the Eagles and zero for Southwestern.

Jack Sichting at No. 1 singles and Sawyer Gord and Jon Kirchoffer at No. 1 doubles each finished second for Brown County. Owen East placed third at No. 2 singles.

VOLLEYBALL

East, Trinity go 2-1

BLOOMINGTON — Columbus East and Trinity Lutheran both went 2-1 with losses to Seymour in Saturday’s Bloomington South Invitational.

The Olympians beat Brownstown Central 25-21, 25-8; fell to Seymour 23-25, 25-14, 15-1 and beat Bloomington South 25-17, 25-20. The Cougars beat Bloomington South 27-29, 25-13, 15-7 and East Central 25-19, 25-11 before falling to Seymour 25-19, 25-22.

Gabby Dean recorded 35 kills and three solo and five assist blocks, and Kenzie Foster had 21 digs and three aces to lead East (5-2). Erin Williams tallied 64 assists.

Also for the Olympians, Maddie Cline notched 18 kills, two assist blocks and 12 digs. Caroline Frost added 13 kills and three solo and one assist block, Jenna Guse pounded 10 kills, Williams had 13 digs, Chloe Gilley added 12 digs and Addison Emery served two aces.

Carson Bowling recorded 39 kills and four blocks, and Laura Roeder had 45 digs and three aces to lead Trinity (5-4). Bailey Tabeling pounded 39 kills, Addison Darlage notched 88 assists, and Drew Hubbard served three aces.

Also for the Cougars, Hubbard tallied nine kills, and Tabeling had two blocks. Tabeling and Darlage each added 27 digs and two aces.

Jets sweep Rebels

HOPE — Hauser had a chance to see another potential sectional opponent Friday and posted a 25-20, 25-18, 25-14 win against Southwestern (Hanover).

Aniston Bostic led the Jets (7-2) with 10 kills and three blocks. Adriana Musillami recorded 23 assists, Charlie Clark notched 15 digs and Mattie Foster served two aces.

Also for Hauser, Kenze Bostic tallied seven kills, two blocks and one ace, and Kayden Miller pounded seven kills. Gracie Blair had 11 digs, Kyra Meister added six digs and Musillami served one ace.

Crusaders fall in 4

Columbus Christian won the second set Saturday, but Christian Academy of Madison recovered for a 25-16, 23-25, 25-13, 25-17 victory.

Anika Jenkins led the Crusaders (1-3) with nine kills, six digs and three aces. Grace Johnson recorded 11 assists, Emma Murray had one block and Emma Murray and Emma Sewell each served three aces.

Also for Columbus Christian, Emma Murray added two kills and four digs. Alexys Murray pounded two kills and Johnson notched four digs.

Panthers win tourney

SCOTTSBURG — Jennings County swept four opponents Saturday to win the Scottsburg Tournament. The Panthers beat Heritage Hills 25-21, 25-20; Evansville North 25-23, 25-21; Corydon 25-20,15-16 and Brown County 25-8, 25-15.

Charlee Barlow pounded 21 kills, and Taylor Mowery notched 22 digs to lead the Panthers (7-2). Avynn Belding added 20 kills.

Brown County (2-4) fell to Scottsburg and Jasper, both in two sets, prior to its loss to Jennings.

CROSS-COUNTRY

East teams finish 13th

FRANKLIN — Brown County’s boys finished seventh with 165 points, Columbus East took 13th with 421 and Jennings County was 17th with 492 in Saturday’s Franklin Invitational. No. 15 Bloomington South won with 85.

In the girls meet, Jennings finished 11th with 300, and East was 13th with 333. No. 13 Bloomington South won with 50.

Chase Austin led the Brown County boys with a third-place finish in 16 minutes, 8.65 seconds for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles). Cord Smith took 24th in 17:41.73, while Rafe Silbaugh was 42nd (18:13.86), Charlie Webb 50th (18:26.47) and Case Smith 51st (18:30.21).

Jackson Brookes finished 72nd in 18:55.51 to lead the Olympian boys. Cayden Lynott was 93rd (19:31.97), Jacob Peeples 101st (19:45.80), Chris Gilroy 105th (19:51.38) and Derek Patchett 139th (20:31.93).

The Jennings boys were led by a 112th-place finish from Jace Vojkufka in 20:00.95. Colin Sharp was 120th (20:12.94), Evan Sochacki 154th (20:59.10), Daniel Rodriguez 155th (21:00.73) and Jace Phillips 159th (21:08.04).

Avery Willhite finished 37th in 21:57.46 and Halle Franks 39th in 22:04.95 to lead the Panther girls. Taylor Leak was 82nd (23:40.99), Haley Vogel 100th (24:30.59) and Grace Gambrel 110th (24:40.14).

Carly Otte led the East girls with a 66th-place finish in 23:03.75. Riley Carothers was 68th (23:09.10), Madison Swartzentruber 71st (23:17.40), Victoria Cuhadar 72nd (23:21.18) and Amelia Fay 124th (25:16.37).

Brown County had four girls runners, one short of the number needed to score as a team. Hadley Gradolf finished fourth in 10:23.93, while Sadie Hiatt was 67th (23:06.66), Megan Cumberledge 115th (24:49.75) and Livie Austin 129th (25:26.15).

Lancer runners compete

RUSHVILLE — Edinburgh had three boys and one girls runner compete in the small-school division of Saturday’s Rushville Invitational.

In the boys meet, Irving Luis-Orozco finished 95th in 22:55.0. Brian Cajellas took 109th in 24:07.2, and Ethan Campbell was 126th in 28:41.9.

Kenzie Steinke finished 73rd in the girls race in 39:13.9.

Panthers edge Raiders

VERSAILLES — Jennings County built a 2-0 halftime lead Saturday and held on for a 2-1 win at South Ripley.

Abby McDonald scored off an assist from Macy Addis for the Panthers (2-3) . Their other goal was an own goal off a corner kick by Maddie McIntosh.

Alayna Phillips posted four saves.

GIRLS GOLF

Panthers place fourth

FLOYDS KNOBS — Sophia Curry tied for medalist honors with a 75 to lead Jennings County to a fourth-place finish out of nine teams in Saturday’s New Albany Invitational.

The Panthers finished with a 373 team total. Alexis Carson carded an 83, Lauren Galvan added a 99, Shelby Davis shot 116 and Rachael Manning had a 119.

Eagles take sixth

BRAZIL — Brown County finished sixth in Saturday’s Western Indiana Conference Tournament with a 409 at Forest Park. Northview won with a 349.

Hannah deWeerdt earned All-Conference honors with a 95 to lead the Eagles. Lilly VanNess carded a 97, Ava Stogsdill added a 103, Savannah Poling shot 114 and Chloe Poling had a 123.

Tiger Cubs top Eagles

NASHVILLE — Brown County got a goal from Carter Norcutt, but dropped a 10-0 WIC decision to Greencastle on Saturday.

Dagan Clarke posted three saves for the Eagles (0-4, 0-2). Mareck Reeves had one save.

Warriors edge Panthers

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County managed five shots, but couldn’t score in a 1-0 loss to Scottsburg on Saturday.

The Panthers fell to 1-5.

Panthers top Eagles

NASHVILLE — Brown County answered Jennings County’s opening touchdown Friday with an 82-yard kickoff return, but after that, the Panthers scored 40 unanswered points to post a 46-6 victory.

Branden Braun carried seven times for 147 yards and two touchdowns, and Matt Hines added 12 carries for 90 yards and two scores for Jennings (1-1). Blaine Ison, Nate Doty and Parker Elmore also ran for touchdowns for the Panthers.

Ethan Spiece carried eight times for 35 yards for the Eagles (0-2). Noah Lewis was 5-of-9 passing for 22 yards.

Lancers rout Clovers

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh overcame an early 7-0 deficit with 42 consecutive points on its way to a 42-14 triumph against Cloverdale on Friday.

Jarrett Turner ran for two touchdowns, and Caleb Murphy threw scoring passes for Braylon Bryant and Caleb Dewey for the Lancers (2-0). Conner Ramey ran for a touchdown, and Jackson Hartwell returned an interception for a score.

Turner finished with 106 yards rushing on 10 carries.

Deaf Hoosiers top Cougars

INDIANAPOLIS — South Decatur put up four touchdowns Friday, but fell 48-29 at Indiana Deaf.

Corbin Johnson carried 22 times for 120 yards and two touchdowns and a two-point conversion for the Cougars (0-2). Rhett Martin 14 carries for 107 yards and one score, and Tyler Bishop ran for the other touchdown.

Martin led the defense with 15 tackles. Johnson added nine tackles.
