Spartans edge Center Grove Central in season opener

The Northside boys tennis team opened its season with a 3-2 win against Center Grove Central on Wednesday.

Advait Aras, Shashu Sabapathy and Vyom Desai won singles matches for the Spartans.

Center Grove Central won the JV match 4-0.

Panthers top Knights, Braves

Jennings County’s eighth-grade White team won a pair of matches last week, beating South Dearborn 25-12, 25-9 on Tuesday and Brownstown 25-15, 25-20 on Thursday.

Lilly Franks led the Panthers (6-3) with 14 digs and three aces against Brownstown. Aylah Belding pounded nine kills, and Addi Petro had one block.

Against South Dearborn, Belding tallied seven kills, Khylee Barlow had one block, Aubree Crane and Milly Greshman each notched three digs and Petro served eight aces.

Jennings was coming off a third-place finish in the Silver Creek Tournament. The Panthers beat Scottsburg 25-12, 25-8 and Holy Trinity 25-21, 16-25, 16-14 and fell to Silver Creek 25-10, 25-22 and Highland Hills 25-17, 25-14. Barlow totaled four blocks and 12 aces, Belding pounded 27 kills and Franks recorded 30 digs.

Meanwhile, the Panther seventh-graders beat Brownstown 20-25, 25-23, 15-13 and South Dearorn 25-3, 25-5. Kenna Sentz had 12 kills against Brownstown and three kills against South Dearborn, and Lydia Martin served five aces against Brownstown.

Jennings was coming off a runner-up finish in the Silver Creek Tournament, beating Scottsburg, Holy Trinity and Silver Creek before falling to Highland Hills in the championship game. Aniston Kent pounded 26 kills, Martin served 17 aces and Karmindy Lowman added 16 aces.
