Remote control cars, light-up greeting cards, and hoop-shooting robots.

Those were just some of the sights to see at a “Back to School Palooza” held at Ninth Street Park on Wednesday. The event was hosted by Foundation For Youth’s Prevention Initiatives, Sans Souci, and the Lincoln Central Neighborhood. Columbus Robotics students and mentors were also on-site to teach kids about STEM.

“I felt it went really well,” said mentor Gayatri Adi. “The turnout was beyond our expectations!”

Adi said their high school students were able to shoot hoops with their robot, which the kids seemed to enjoy. They also liked seeing the middle school team’s smaller bot.

“They had lots of questions and the Columbus Robotics students were happy to answer,” she said. “For the kids I believe driving RC cars and making light up monster greeting cards were the highlights of the Columbus Robotics portion of the event. We’re so thankful to LCNFC and FFY prevention program for providing us the opportunity to meet our neighbors.”

Diane Doup, community outreach coordinator for Lincoln-Central, was also happy at how the palooza went, saying there was a huge turnout.

“We were elated with how many neighbors joined us!” she said. “Children and adults were able to take advantage of so many resources and fun!”
