SEYMOUR
Donald D. Abernathy, 83, of Seymour passed from this life on Monday, August 29, 2022, at 12:37 a.m. at Seymour Place Assisted Living Community.
Mr. Abernathy was born on May 15, 1939, in Anderson, Indiana the son of Paul Harvey and Mable Holsinger Abernathy. On October 19, 1963, he married Joyce Marie Crouch. A proud American he severed and retired from the United States Navy, he then went on to work for IBM. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, St. John’s Masonic Lodge No. 20, and the Bartholomew County Shrine Club. He enjoyed doing magic and becoming a magician.
Survivors include his daughter, Sylvia (Kevin) Bearry of Seymour; granddaughter, Montanna (Chase Asbell Plummer) Bearry of Columbus; and 2 sisters.
He was preceded in death by her parents; his wife, Joyce M. Abernathy on September 16, 2006; and one sister.
A Masonic memorial service will be at 12:00 p.m. Thursday by members of the St. John’s Masonic Lodge No. 20 at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 10:00 a.m. till time of service at the funeral home.
Private inurnment will be at Bethel Baptist Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given through the funeral home to the Shriners Hospital or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
