Robert S. Henrich

COLUMBUS, INDIANA

Robert S. Henrich, 92, died August 3, 2022, in Columbus, Indiana. Robert was born on October 25, 1929, in Cleveland, Ohio to Samuel and Susanna Henrich. Both parents emigrated to the U. S. in the early 1920’s.

Robert enlisted in the Navy in 1949 and served aboard submarines as an electronic technician. After service, he entered Carnegie Tech (Carnegie Melon University) in 1953 and graduated in 1957. That same year he married Cynthia Ann West of greater Pittsburgh. They enjoyed a happy and loving relationship for just short of 60 years!

Robert worked for Bendix Corporation as an electrical engineer in aerospace, research and automotive divisions which spanned 25 years. In 1984, Cummins, Inc. purchased his Bendix group that had developed a fully electronic-controlled fuel delivery system. He moved to Columbus in 1986 to help develop a production version of the diesel engine control module for Cummins engines. Robert retired in 1995 and provided consulting services to Cummins and other companies in the area.

His primary hobbies were woodworking, stained glass, and general repair from household to automotive. Robert served in his community as an advisor to several Junior Achievement groups, as a member of the Local American Heart Association and with the Columbus Area Down Syndrome Group. He obtained his B. S. and M. S. in electrical engineering and his P. E. license from the State of Michigan and earned 10 patents during his career.

Robert is survived by his brother, Frederick (Joyce) Henrich; daughter, Margaret (Doug) Marian; son, Charles (Jennifer) Henrich; three grandchildren, Justin Henrich, Matthew (Taylor) Henrich and Cade Marian; and 2 great grandchildren, Myles and Evelyn Henrich.

Visitation and memorial service will be held at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home, 1029 Washington St, Columbus, Saturday, September 10, 2022. Visitation at 10 a.m. and the memorial service beginning at 11 a.m. Reception will follow.
