North girls win Classic

NASHVILLE — Julia Kiesler and Lily Baker went 1-2 Saturday to lead top-ranked Columbus North to the team title in the Girls Elite division at Brown County’s Eagle Classic.

The Bull Dogs finished with 75 points as a team. Carmel took second with 125, and Zionsville was third with 145.

Kiesler ran 17 minutes, 28.7 seconds for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles), and Baker ran 17:49.0. Ellen White took 22nd in 19:08.9, while Jessica Meza was 25th (19:19.3), Brianna Newell 28th (19:21.3), Sydney Morlok 51st (19:41.4) and Ainsley Sherlock 62nd (20:04.6).

Brown County’s Hadley Gradolf, running as an individual, finished 10th in 18:51.0.

North finished third in the Boys Elite race. Carmel won with 66 to 93 for Zionsville, 103 for the Bull Dogs and 150 for Center Grove.

Clayton Guthrie led North with a ninth-place finish in 15:26.7. Will Russell took 11th in 15:28.4, while Neal White was 20th (15:41.7), Mateo Mendez 23rd (15:45.0), Kellen Hottell 51st (16:24.0), Adler Larson 61st (16:40.4) and Sam Hobbeheydar 80th (17:06.4).

Brown County finished third with 90 points in the Boys A race. South Knox won with 40. Cord Smith led the Eagles with a ninth-place finish in 17:45.7, while Charlie Webb was 19th (18:22.6), Case Smith 22nd (18:29.5), Rafe Silbaugh 23rd (18:35.6) and Kai Koester 26th (18:49.1).

Jennings County finished sixth with 209 points in the Boys AA race. Indian Creek won with 94. Kraedyn Young took fourth in 16:48.2 to lead the Panthers, while Eli Wahlman was 12th (17:14.2), Noah McFall 47th (18:11.1), Dawson Leak 66th (18:33.6) and Jonathan Jones 86th (19:10.7).

Jennings finished 10th with 250 points in the Girls AA race. Seymour won with 113. Halle Franks led the Panthers with a 22nd-place finish in 21:47.1, while Avery Willhite was 40th (22:28.3), Taylor Leak 46th (22:45.8), Molly Wathen 54th (23:06.1) and Haley Vogel 96th (24:45.0).

East teams take fifth

WHITELAND — Columbus East’s boys and girls both finished fifth in Saturday’s Whiteland Invitational.

The Olympians and Hauser both finished with 199 points in the boys meet, but East had the faster sixth runner. Whiteland won with 53 points.

Chris Gilroy (19:32.12), Jacob Peeples (19:38.67) and Lorren Westerfeld (19:38.81) finished 36th, 37th and 38th to lead the Olympians. Cayden Lynott was 45th (19:55.13) and Derek Patchett 51st (20:24.09).

Hauser was led by an eighth-place finish from Nolan Dailey in 18:14.57. Colin Kistler took 14th in 18:38.53, while Ledger Gelfius was 72nd (20:54.28), Mason Moore 80th (21:04.60) and Collin Buck 86th (21:21.85).

East scored 124 points in the girls meet. Greenwood won with 40. Carly Otte finished 14th in 22:17.18 to lead the Olympians, while Victoria Cuhadar was 21st (22:40.65), Madison Swartzentruber 22nd (22:45.37), Riley Carothers 31st (23:33.73) and Amelia Fay 40th (24:08.15).

Hauser’s girls finished 10th with 273 points. Lucie Asher took 44th in 25:02.37, while Madison Hollman was 56th (25:31.19), Amanda Steward 59th (25:39.08), Reiss Kistler 96th (31:39.25) and Bronwyn Newcomb 99th (32:38.63).

Bull Dogs win invite

No. 7 Columbus North swept through three opponents Saturday to win the North Invitational. The Bull Dogs beat Batesville 4-1, No. 16 Cathedral 3-2 and Providence 5-0.

Hank Lin at No. 1 singles and Amrit Kar and Anvay Atram at No. 1 doubles went 3-0 for North (13-2). Parth Shah and Parth Gupta went 2-0 at No. 2 doubles, and Shah was 1-0 at No. 3 singles.

Austin Clark went 2-1 at No. 2 singles. Michael Crossman and Darren Li went 1-0 at No. 2 doubles. Steven Sun was 1-2 at No. 3 singles.

Olympians drop three

SHELBYVILLE — Columbus East dropped three matches in Saturday’s Shelbyville Invitational, falling to Shelbyville 4-1 and to No. 21 Westfield and Seymour by 5-0 scores.

Brady Redelman won at No. 3 singles for the Olympians (5-8) in the match against Shelbyville.

Mustangs top Eagles

ELLETTSVILLE — Edgewood won three matches in straight sets and another by forfeit Saturday in a 4-1 Western Indiana Conference win against Brown County.

Jack Sichting beat Mitch Deckard 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles for the Eagles (2-12, 0-5). Jon Kirchoffer fell to Quinn Norris 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, Owen East and Trevor Shields lost to Zeke Weisner and Dane Weisner 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles and Brandon Saechao and Sawyer Gore fell to Carter Cheaney and Dannie Chandler 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

North blanks Cougars

GREENFIELD — Lauren Barker netted a goal and an assist Saturday to lead Columbus North to a 2-0 win at Greenfield-Central.

Kara Kolhouse scored the other goal, and Charlotte Loheide had the other assist for the Bull Dogs (4-4-2), who put six shots on goal to four for the Cougars. Mallory Gilley posted four saves.

Bulldogs top Panthers

NORTH VERNON — New Albany built a 3-1 halftime lead and went on to post a 5-1 Hoosier Hills Conference win Saturday at Jennings County.

Abby McDonald scored the goal off an assist from Maddy McIntosh for the Panthers (3-4-1, 1-3), who were outshot 11-6. Alayna Phillips recorded six saves.

Eagles fall to Arrows

SULLIVAN — Brown County kept it close in the first half Saturday, but Sullivan pulled away for a 4-1 WIC win.

Savannah Oden scored the goal for the Eagles (2-2-1, 2-2). Anna Tipton posted four saves.

Bull Dogs take second

BLOOMINGTON — Ava Bunker set a school record with a 4-under-par 66 Saturday to win medalist honors and lead Columbus North to a runner-up finish in the Bloomington North Invitational.

No. 3 Center Grove won the 15-team event with a 310 at Cascades. The Bull Dogs finished with a 334.

Erin Hopkins and Lindsey Hartwell each shot 89 for Columbus North. Ritisha Rashmil added a 90, and Nettie Meeks had a 112.

East third in HHC

BEDFORD — Columbus East finished third and Jennings County fifth in Saturday’s HHC Tournament at Otis Park. No. 13 Floyd Central won with a 308 to 326 for host Bedford North Lawrence, 367 for the Olympians, 368 for No. 19 New Albany and 383 for the Panthers.

Carter Gant finished eighth individually with an 82 to lead East and earn honorable mention All-Conference honors. Katie Hong carded a 90, Lilly Steinwedel added a 94, Grace LaSell shot 101 and Ali Trueblood had a 107.

Sophia Curry placed third individually with a 76 to earn All-HHC honors and lead Jennings. Alexis Carson carded an 85, Lauren Galvan added a 105, Shelby Davis shot 117 and Rachael Manning had a 122.

Lancers win MHC

EDINBURGH — Izzy Richardson won medalist honors with an 81 Saturday to lead Edinburgh to the Mid-Hoosier Conference title.

The Lancers finished with a 413 team total at Timbergate. Southwestern (Shelby) was second with a 481.

Macie Blandford (105), Jillian Turner (118) and Gracie Myers (118) all earned All-Conference honors. Cloee Britton added a 121.

VOLLEYBALL

Jets sweep Mohawks

HOPE — Hauser remained unbeaten in the MHC with a 25-11, 25-16, 25-17 win Friday against Waldron.

Adrianna Musillami led the Jets (11-3, 2-0) with 25 assists and 15 digs. Charlie Clark pounded eight kills, Kenze Bostic had three blocks and Mattie Foster served five aces.

Also for Hauser, Kenze Bostic recorded seven kills and three aces, and Kayden Miller added three kills and one ace. Aniston Bostic had two blocks, Pagie McDaniel added one block, Foster notched nine digs, Kyra Meister contributed eight digs and Clark added one assist.

Crusaders win in 4

Columbus Christian overcame a first-set setback to post a 25-27, 26-24, 25-18, 25-22 Southern Roads Conference win against Cannelton on Saturday.

Anika Jenkins recorded 14 kills, three blocks and 10 aces; and Grace Johnson had 16 assists and six digs to lead the Crusaders (2-6, 1-1).

Also for Columbus Christian, Alexys Murray pounded nine kills, Johnson had five kills and five aces and Emma Murray added five kills, three digs and three aces. Emma Sewell notched 11 assists and three aces.

Jennings goes 1-2

GREENWOOD — Jennings County was without three varsity regulars and went 1-2 in Saturday’s Greenwood Invitational.

The Panthers (10-6) fell to Greenwood 25-15, 20-25, 16-14 and Crawfordsville 25-20, 24-26, 15-11 before beating Monrovia 22-25, 25-22, 15-11.

Eagles stop Arrows

SULLIVAN — Brown County and Sullivan split the first two sets Saturday, but the Eagles took the third and fourth to post a 25-23, 24-26, 25-21, 25-15 WIC win.

Abigail Watson led the Eagles with 21 kills and five blocks (5-7, 3-1). Madilyn Hawley recorded 20 assists, Evie Finley had five blocks, Londyn Koester notched 20 digs and Emma Lucas served four aces.

Also for Brown County, Lucas tallied four kills and 18 digs. Watson added seven digs, and Koester had two aces.

BOYS SOCCER

Carmel edges North

Class 3A No. 5 Carmel scored off a corner kick in the 39th minute Friday, and that was the lone score in a 1-0 decision against 3A No. 7 Columbus North.

The Greyhounds outshot the Bull Dogs (8-1-1) 19-2, putting eight shots on goal to none for North.

Oscar Ballinas and Max Grewe each played a half and posted three saves. Konnor Gribbins recorded a non-goalkeeper save.

Jets notch first win

HOPE — Lakota Robbins scored three goals Saturday to lead Hauser to its first win of the season Saturday, a 7-1 victory against Austin.

Elian Escalante, Kolton Wallace, Alex Bower and Cameron Toole all scored one goal for the Jets (1-5-1). Zach Weichman had three assists, and Dylan Fleenor added one assist. Will Walters posted three saves.

Hauser was coming off a 6-0 Mid-Hoosier Conference loss at Class A No. 19 Southwestern (Shelby) on Friday. Walters recorded seven saves, and Owen McIntyre had a non-goalkeeper save.

Eagles get first win

SULLIVAN — Brown County notched its first win of the season Saturday, a 2-1 WIC decision at Sullivan.

Carter Norcutt netted a goal and an assist for the Eagles (1-5, 1-3). Ethan Scott scored a goal, and Aaron Woodrum had an assist.

Bradley Arndt posted four saves.

Devils top Panthers

JEFFERSONVILLE — Jennings County endured a 5-0 HHC loss Saturday at Jeffersonville.

The Panthers fell to 1-8 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

FOOTBALL

Lancers blank Pacers

VEVAY — Caleb Murphy threw three touchdown passes Friday to lead Edinburgh to a 19-0 win at Switzerland County and the Lancers’ first 4-0 start since 1961.

Murphy’s scoring passes went for 46 yards to Connor Ramey, 11 yards to Caleb Dewey and five yards to Braylon Bryant. The final touchdown was set up by a 55-yard screen pass from Murphy to Jarrett Turner.

Cougars post victory

GREENSBURG — South Decatur picked up its first win of the season Friday, a 47-12 triumph against Crawford County.

Rhett Martin ran for three touchdowns, and Corbin Johnson had 170 yards and two touchdowns rushing to lead the Cougars (1-3). Tyler Bishop ran for a touchdown and 2-point conversion, Drake Skaggs ran for a touchdown and McKinley Shook kicked a field goal.

Both of Crawford County’s scores came on kickoff returns.

Braves beat Eagles

TRAFALGAR — Indian Creek jumped out to a 48-0 halftime lead Friday and went on to post a 55-0 victory against Brown County.

The Eagles fell to 0-4.
