Eric Baker Burr

COLUMBUS

Our beloved Eric Baker Burr went to heaven on Monday, Sept 5 while spending the holiday weekend with family and friends as a result of an undiagnosed heart condition. God called Eric home at age 34. It is God’s timing, but too soon for us.

Eric was one-of-a-kind. He brought joy and inspiration to so many others with his fun-loving outlook on life. He saw everything through a lens of childlike wonderment and humor that resulted in what can only be described as “happy chaos.” He had his own way of living that can never be copied.

Eric attended Camp Lakeview every summer growing up. When he had outgrown being a camper, he continued on as a staff member and counselor. His experiences at Camp Lakeview framed the rest of his life filled with knowing Jesus, sharing Christ’s love, and being a carefree spirit.

Eric achieved a Bachelor’s in Marketing from the IU Kelley School of Business and worked at Cummins for a few years, but that wasn’t his passion. Eric found his true calling of flipping houses immediately after college. Eric aspired to rebuild communities and along the way teach others building trades. He achieved a real estate broker license. Eric had a very strong work ethic and desire to succeed that showed in everything he did, including delivering Jimmy Johns into the early morning at IU, pole vaulting, flipping houses, his painting business and much much more. He enjoyed being with people, working out, water skiing, kayaking, running, and weightlifting. He was a staple around Tipton Lakes Athletic Club.

Eric taught himself the guitar and played it enthusiastically wherever he went. Eric was commonly known as the “guy who would play his guitar on the dock all night long” at both Lutheran Lake and Pleasant Lake at his brother’s lake house in Michigan.

Eric loved all things comedy. He had quick wit and great memory and could quote his favorite comedians, TV shows, and movies at any time.

We can only hope to laugh as freely, chase our dreams as fiercely, and be as unapologetically authentic as Eric Burr.

Surviving is Bitty, his beloved cat; parents, Bill and Cathy Burr; brother, Matthew (Emily) Burr, their children Kelsey, Isaac, Kaitlyn; and his sister, Sarah (Matt) Bogaert.
