John Vernon Skinner Sr.

John Vernon Skinner, Sr., 87, of Columbus, passed from this life at 12:41 p.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at Columbus Regional Hospital. John was born November 5, 1934, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, the son of Harry and Clyde Geneva Buckmaster Skinner. On November 27, 1954, he married Janice Elaine Magorian.

John Skinner retired from working for the United States Government in Minnesota as an electrical engineer. He enjoyed nature, camping and fishing. He also loved to cross country ski and looked forward to spending time at the family cabin in Wisconsin. John was extremely fond of dogs. He was talented in woodworking, making furniture or just carving various miniature items. John was a current member of the “Silver Sneakers” located at the Y in Nashville. He will be greatly missed by those that knew him best. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Janice; children, John Vernon (Pearl) Skinner, Jr. of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Elizabeth (Scott) Grant of Elizabethtown; grandchildren, Renee (Brian) King, Michael Skinner, Brian (Michelle) Skinner, Andrew Skinner, Mandy (Mick) Duffy, Cristy (Tom) Riley; great-grandchildren, Austin King, Claire Duffy, Molly Duffy, John Duffy, Cora Duffy, Kiernan Riley, Maxwell Riley and Charlotte Riley.

The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday at White Creek United Methodist Church with Rev. Jongmin Lee officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the church.

Burial will take place at White Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery.
