INDIANAPOLIS — Class 3A No. 3 Indianapolis Bishop Chatard got out to an early lead and leat Columbus North to play catch up for most of the football game.

The Bull Dogs stayed even with the Trojans, but they overcome the early deficit to fall 41-27 Friday night.

On the opening drive, the Trojans (3-2) converted on a 54-yard pass for a touchdown to go ahead 7-0. After North (2-3) punted on its opening possession, Chatard made a huge pass on the first play of the possession and went out of bounds near the goal line. The Trojans eventually punched it in to make it a 14-0 lead, and led by that margin after the first quarter.

The Bull Dogs (2-3) connected on a big play offensively in the second quarter. Zac Horn found Cooper Horn for an 87-yard touchdown pass to cut it to 14-7 following the Osian Guest extra point with 7:27 left in the second quarter.

On the ensuing possession, Chatard quarterback Drew VanVleet had a bad snap and was sacked for a 12-yard loss. But North didn’t take advantage as VanVleet made a huge pass to Colin Guy for a first down. It eventually led to a touchdown run from Riley Kinnett to extended the Trojans lead to 21-7.

On the ensuing possession, the Bull Dogs returned the kickoff for good field position, and it led to a 26-yard touchdown pass to Damon Edwards to make it 21-13 following the missed extra point. Chatard was driving right before the half, but the North defense held. As a bonus, the field goal was missed. The Bull Dogs tried to drive down the field before halftime but time ran out with the score holding 21-13.

On the Trojans opening drive of the second half, Chatard was faced with a couple of 4th-down situations. Instead of opting for a field goal, it converted the yardage necessary. The drive would eventually lead to a touchdown to give the Trojans a 28-13 lead midway through the third quarter.

On the ensuing possession, Cooper Horn caught a long pass to put North at the 9-yard line. Tyler Blythe then ran it in for the score to cut it to 28-20 with 6:14 left in the third.

Chatard responded on its next drive after a controversial pass interference call. The Trojans converted off the penalty for a score to make it 35-20 with 1:53 left in the third.

Chatard put away the game early in the fourth quarter when Aidan Arteaga, who subbed for an injured VanVleet, threw a touchdown pass to make it 41-20. The Bull Dogs got a touchdown with 3:36 left in the game with a Zac Horn to Cooper Horn 8-yard pass completion.
