Central hands Northside first loss of tennis season

Central Middle School handed Northside its first boys tennis loss of the season on Thursday, a 3-2 decision.

Winners for Northside (7-1) were singles player Shashu Sabapathy and the doubles team of Chandan Munnaluri/Ricardo Prata. The Spartans JV beat Central 3-2 with winners including singles player Alex Zeng and the doubles teams of Nico Moran Mendez/Shun Nakano and Niranjan Pillai/Hiram Tame.

Northside was coming off a 4-1 victory against Waldron on Tuesday. Winners including singles players Advait Aras, Sabapathy and Vyom Desai and the doubles team of Cale Fitzsimmons/Andrew Huang.

The Spartans JV tied Waldron 2-2, with winners including singles player Sebastian Hartwell and the doubles team of Armando Duran-Blanc/Mendez.

Panthers sweep Cubs

The Jennings County seventh- and-eighth-graders swept Madison on Thursday. The seventh grade won 25-5, 25-15, and the eighth-graders were victorious 25-16, 25-8.

Aniston Kent pounded five kills, and Lydia Martin served 12 aces to lead the seventh-graders. Etta Young recorded five kills, Paige Hack notched five digs and Aylah Belding tallied nine aces to lead the eighth-graders (14-3).

The Panther eighth-graders wer coming off a 25-9, 25-6 win against Austin on Tuesday. Young pounded eight kills, Hack had one block, Lilly Franks notched four digs and Khylee Barlow served six aces.

Cubs edge Panthers

Jennings County Middle School came close Thursday, but fell to Madison 18-16.

Rhett Burkman and Ryan Clark ran for touchdowns for the Panthers (1-4). Burkman also ran for a 2-point conversion, and Cooper Lane caught a 2-point conversion pass.
