COLUMBUS, INDIANA
Marilyn Rose Estell, 91, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, unexpectedly passed from this life at 3:50 p.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at Columbus Regional Hospital Emergency Department.
Marilyn was born in Jefferson County, Indiana, April 10, 1931, the loving daughter of Harry and Ruth Gunnion Pettit. On June 3, 1949, in Jennings County, Marilyn married Olin Estell; he preceded her in death August 25, 2007.
Marilyn was an accountant for the Civil Service for 25 years; she worked at the Bakalar Air Force Base in Columbus and then finished her career at the Jefferson Proving Ground near Madison.
She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Columbus and the Hannah Missionary Circle at the church. She was also a member of the Columbus Lions Club and was a former member of the North Vernon Chapter of Delta Theta Tau Sorority. Marilyn always enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing euchre and bingo, and traveling; and she was an avid sports fan.
Surviving to cherish her memory of her grandchildren, Jason (Lindsay) Lentz of Anderson and Amber (Eric) Stephens of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Evalyn Lentz and Carter Stephens; sister-in-law, Faye Pettit of Columbus; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Ruth Pettit; husband, Olin; daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Tom Lentz; great-grandson, Ayden Lentz; and brothers, John, Ralph, Robert, and Dale Pettit.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, September 19, 2022, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home, 1029 Washington Street, Columbus, Indiana; Dr. Daniel Cash will officiate.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 11 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Marilyn will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Vernon Cemetery.
