DAR marks Constitution Week

The Joseph Hart Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is calling attention to the annual recognition of Constitution Week.

According to DAR, Constitution Week, from Sept. 17-23, has been recognized by federal law since 1956. The aims of the celebration are to:

  • Emphasize citizens’ responsibilities for protecting and defending the Constitution.
  • Inform people that the Constitution is the basis for America’s great heritage and the foundation for our way of life.
  • Encourage the study of the historical events that led to the framing of the Constitution in September 1787.

Also today, DAR will sponsor Bells Across America, in which participants gather to ring bells at 4 p.m., much as the church bells of Philadelphia rang out when the U.S. Constitution was first signed at 4 p.m. on September 17, 1787.
