Terry Emerick

Terry Emerick, 77, of Columbus, died at 6:05 p.m., September 26, 2022, at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Terry was born March 30, 1945 in St. Louis, MO, the son of Phillip McDonough and Lois Lorene McCrady Emerick. He married Glenda Rae Law Emerick on August 31, 1968.

Terry was a proud veteran of the Air Force, serving 4 years and leaving with the rank of SSG. Terry and his wife lived in Memphis, Tennessee where he worked as the City Planning Director for Shelby County Tennessee. Terry &Glenda moved to Bartlett, Tennessee where he also served as the Director of City Planning for Bartlett. Terry loved sailing and was a member of the Pickwick Sailing Association. In Terry’s early years he found he had a passion for astronomy and even built his very own telescope complete with a homebuilt observatory on top of his parent’s garage at the age of 15. Being a skilled builder and loving his grandkids, Terry will always be remembered for the building of Fort Caroline and many outdoor playsets that he constructed from his own designs. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Terry will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.

The funeral will be at Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Howard Boles officiating. Military Rites will be performed by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard. Calling will be from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Bartholomew County Humane Society.

Survivors include his wife, Glenda; sons, Gregory (Janie) Emerick, of Columbus, Indiana and Brian (Ramona Bergo-Soto) Emerick, of Montgomery, Alabama; brother, Charles (Ruth) Emerick, of Memphis, Tenn. and grandchildren, Caroline Anne, and William Law Emerick, both of Columbus, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
