Joe Cox was presented 2021-2022 BBJ (Bartholomew, Brown, Jennings) Special Olympics District 2 Athlete of the Year award at the annual athletes banquet on Sept. 24. Cox has been competing in Special Olympics four years in basketball, volleyball, bowling and track and field.

Spartans finish with win

The Northside Middle School boys tennis team pulled out a 3-2 win against Seymour on Tuesday to finish the season 10-1.

Advait Aras was named the team MVP. Other award winners were Vyom Desai (Mental Attitude), Sebastian Hartwell (Most Improved eighth-grader), Hiram Tame (Mist Improved seventh-grader), Shasha Sabapathy (Sportsmanship eighth-grader) and Vitor Potenza (Sportsmanship seventh-grader).

Winners for the Spartans were Sabapathy and Ricardo Prata in singles and the doubles team of Nico Moran Mendez/Chandan Munnaluri.

The Northside JV won 5-0. Winners were Cale Fitzsimmons in singles and the doubles teams of Armando Duran-Blanc/Alex Zeng, Andrew Huang/Niranjan Pillai, Shun Nakano/Potenza and Mateo Rosales/Tame.

VOLLEYBALL

Panthers end with wins

The Jennings County Middle School volleyball teams wrapped up their seasons Thursday with wins against Seymour.

The eighth-graders won 25-11, 25-15 to finish 19-4. Ayah Belding led the Panthers with eight kills, four digs and five aces. Khylee Barlow and Etta Young each had two blocks.

The seventh-graders beat the Owls 25-3, 25-12 to finish 22-1. Aniston Kent pounded eight kills, and Kassidy Warren served six aces.

The Jennings eighth-graders were coming off a win in the JCMS Tournament. The Panthers beat Madison 25-7, 25-6 and Brown County 25-5, 25-4. Lilly Franks tallied six digs and 12 aces, Belding pounded 14 kills and Young had two blocks.

Panthers edge Rebels

The Jennings County Middle School boys edged Southwestern (Hanover) 3-2 on Thursday.

Jacob Ferguson, Carter Mickels and Jaxon Nelson all scored one goal for the Panthers (4-5-2). Bryson Scroggin posted four saves, and Levi Whitesell added one save.

Jennings was coming off a 1-1 tie with Benjamin Rush. Kaleb McIntosh scored the goal. Scroggin recorded six saves, and Whitesell added three saves.

Spartans top Panthers

Northside posted a 28-6 victory against Jennings County.

Ryan Clark scored a rushing touchdown for the Panthers.
