A local man was arrested on several alcohol-related charges after his vehicle struck a Columbus home on Thursday night.

At approximately 10:35 p.m., CPD officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of Hege Avenue in regards to the crash. When officers arrived, they observed that a van crashed into a residence and the home’s porch roof had collapsed on to the vehicle, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The officers determined that the driver of the van, Robert R. Kettler Jr., 50, of Columbus was not injured. The officers were informed that a child sleeping inside the home when the crash occurred was not injured.

When officers spoke with Kettler, they noted that his speech was slurred and his eyes were bloodshot and glassy, Harris said.

Kettler failed several field sobriety tests at the crash scene and later provided a breath sample of .224%. Kettler was placed under arrest and remanded to the Bartholomew County Jail on the following preliminary charges, operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangerment, operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction and operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content of .15% or greater, jail officials said.
