The Columbus Police Department is investigating a Thursday morning accident involving a car and a moped that left a Columbus man with serious injuries.
Shortly before 8 a.m., CPD officers responded to the 800 block of South Jonesville Road (State Road 11) in regards to the crash involving a passenger car and a moped, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman. The operator of the moped, Ricky D. Stephens, 37, of Columbus was seriously injured in the crash and was transported by medical helicopter to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment.
The driver of the passenger car, Kennedy L. Engelau, 21, of Seymour, was not injured. The crash remains under investigation.
Agencies assisting CPD with the investigation include: Columbus Fire Department, Columbus Regional Hospital EMS, IU Health Lifeline, Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana State Police.
