COLUMBUS, Ind. — The 19th Annual Kiwanis Incredible Duck Splash on Saturday at Mill Race Park generated a record gross total of $82,325 for various projects benefiting youth and others.
Jeff Blasdel, event founder and coordinator, announced the total. He said the previous record was $73,300 in 2018.
“What a fantastic year,” Blasdel said.
The event raises money for Columbus Meridian Kiwanis efforts as people “adopt” rubber ducks that are dropped into the park’s Round Lake. Winners are then drawn out of the water.
Duck “buddies” are local youth organizations who get 80 percent of their total sales of duck adoptions.
Each purchase of a $5 “adopted” duck earned a person one chance to win one of 20 prizes totaling more than $12,000 in value. A record 21,678 ducks were purchased.
Loretta Nugent had the lucky duck number. But her duck was not one of the first 10 drawn, so she did not win the new car or $50,000. However, she received a $100 consolation prize. Winners of the cash and prizes totaling more than $12,000 are:
