Matthew David Fear

A celebration of life was held October first for the passing of Matthew David Fear, who passed into eternity on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at his home in Greenwood, Indiana after a long and hard fought battle with cancer.

Matt was born in Columbus, Indiana on May 6, 1976 to Robert and Diana Fear. Matt accomplished many things in his youth, among them becoming an Eagle scout, which brought him much enjoyment on many camping adventures and boating trips. Matt’s love of travel and adventures continue, especially to theme parks, which was one of his favorite pastimes. He also enjoyed family vacation to the beach and working on Chrysalis Flights of the Emmaus Community.

Matt grew up in the faith at East Columbus, United Methodist Church, and then later attended Villa Baptist Church in Indianapolis, where he and Desirae were married in 2007.

Matt was a graduate of Columbus North High School, Class of 1994 and also attended Ivy Tech College for a time. No matter where he was employed, Matt was a dependable and productive member of the workforce. He had been a valued employee at Standens of Indianapolis for the last four years, and finally took a leave of absence one month before his passing.

Matt was an avid Colts and Cubs fan, and enjoyed attending sporting events and Monster Truck rallies. He was a NASCAR enthusiast, and a fan of the Fast and Furious movies, as well as the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Matt played golf, video games, softball, and he liked to bowl. He was a devoted fan of anime, especially Dragon Ball Z. Matt thoroughly enjoyed dining out with family and friends, and enjoyed family dinners followed by card and board games.

Matt is survived by his wife, Desirae; his parents, Bob and Diana Fear; his father and mother-in-law, Bill and Joellen Moos; his grandmother, Sarah (Betty) Schaefer, and grandparents-in-law, Bill and Lois Cox.

Additional survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Adam and Chelsea Saulter; sister-in-law Christy Fear; and three nieces, Sabrina, Madelyn, and Claire Fear, many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and one very spoiled Boston Terrier named Luna.

Matt was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Fear; grandfather, Herbert Schaefer; and grandmother, Rosemary Hacker Fear Brown.

He is missed by all and is held by Jesus’ arms in heaven.
