MADISON
Nancy Gayle Stack, 79 of Madison, IN, passed from this life at 10:16 am on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at the Franklin Meadows in Franklin, IN. She was born on Tuesday, October 20,1942, in Indianapolis to the late John J. “Jack” and Mary G. (Combs) Petty.
Nancy attended high school in Indianapolis and was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Madison, IN, where she loved being in the choir. She worked as a home health care provider and several years at Clifty Falls State Park before her retirement.
She was instrumental in battling for the rights of girls’ athletics at Bartholomew County School Corporation. Her tireless efforts ensured young girls’ the opportunity to play organized basketball in Columbus, Indiana, and gained national attention the following basketball season. In addition to fighting for girls’ basketball, Nancy was an integral part of a team that helped organize slow pitch softball for young girls in Columbus, Indiana. She also had a love for animals.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 64 years, Charles J. Stack; two sons, Michael Stack and Robert Stack (Marty England); two daughters, Maria Stack (Bobbi Bryant) and Julia Stack; one brother, Charles Petty; five grandchildren, Charles Boas, Jaime Boas, Gavin Winterhoff, Colin Winterhoff, and Natasha Baumy; and several great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Edward Stack.
Neal &Summers Funeral and Cremation Center has been entrusted with Nancy’s final arrangements and a private celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
