Services and studies

Asbury United Methodist Church — Asbury offers a traditional service at 8:45 a.m. and a contemporary service at 11 a.m. Nursery is available for both services. J.A.M. (children’s church) is offered at both services. The church also offers Sunday school classes at 10 a.m.

On Sunday, Oct. 30, between services, the church will be making homemade donuts and having fun decorating them with your favorite toppings. Cold cider will also be provided to go with your delicious donuts.

Every Thursday when school is in full-day session, a $4 taco/chicken lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with Pit Stop (Taco Church) Lunch.

Columbus Baptist Church — The church offers worship services on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. A teen service is offered at 6:30 p.m. Sunday school for all ages meets at 9:30 a.m.

Wednesday Bible study, Kids Club and teens meet at 6:30 p.m. There are various small group events weekly.

Community Church of Columbus — Community Church of Columbus meets for Sunday service at 9 and 10:30 a.m. The second service is livestreamed and available on the Community Church’s Columbus Indiana Facebook page and Community Church of Columbus YouTube channel.

East Columbus Christian Church — East Columbus Christian Church is open for in-person worship on Sunday mornings with a blended worship service at 10 a.m. The church also has online worship available through Facebook and YouTube.

Sunday morning Bible study is at 9 a.m. Youth meet at the church from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and children’s ministry meets through Zoom on Wednesdays at 5 p.m.

East Columbus United Methodist Church — Pastor Jongmin Lee will bring the message at the 9 a.m. Sunday morning worship service. The blended worship service includes praise music, traditional hymns and children’s moment. Sunday school is held immediately following the morning service, and classes are available for all ages and Bible interests. Holy Communion is served on the first Sunday of each month.

A free hot meal will be served the second Sunday of each month at 5 p.m. in the Youth Center Building. All are welcome to come.

Fairlawn Presbyterian Church — The church is now open for in-person service at 9:30 a.m. If you would like to join on Zoom, please email the church office at [email protected] to request a Zoom link.

On Oct. 23, at 11 a.m. in the Sanctuary, Jim Roberts, superintendent of BCSC, will speak on challenges for the next school board and safety in our schools in an hour long Community Conversations event. Coffee, water, and light refreshments will be available at 10:30 a.m. A Zoom link is also available for anyone wishing to join the event virtually.

Fellowship and coffee hour is every Wednesday at 7 p.m. Please contact the church for the Zoom link.

Women’s Bible study is the third Tuesday of each month at 1 p.m.

Faith Lutheran Church — Worship each Sunday begins at 9 a.m. in-person and livestreamed on the church’s Facebook page. Most Sundays, Sunday school and an adult Bible study are offered from 10:15 to 11 a.m. Wednesday evening worship (masks required) takes place at 6:30 p.m. each week. The congregation also livestreams a daily devotion and prayer Monday through Thursday at 7 a.m. on the Facebook page.

On Nov. 6, the church invites you to join to celebrate Faith Lutheran’s 60th Anniversary. Worship begins at 9 a.m. with guest preacher, the Rev. D. First Presbyterian Church — The church is delighted to welcome back to the pulpit Rev. Richard Safford who will preach on this 20th Sunday after Pentecost reflecting on Joel 2:23-32, 2 Timothy 4:6-8, 16-18 and Luke 18:9-14. First United Methodist Church — On Sunday, Oct. 23, at 10 a.m., the Rev. Howard Boles will deliver the message, “Faithful Together”. The scripture will be Psalm 133.

The church encourages those attending in person to arrive 10 minutes before the service. Hand sanitizer will be available at the entrances to the sanctuary. Masks are optional. Childcare will be available from 9:45 a.m. until the end of the 10 a.m. service.

For those unable to attend the in-person service or not yet comfortable meeting in person, service livestreams will be available on the church Facebook page, and the church YouTube channel (FUMC Columbus). Videos will be available on the church website for later viewing as well.

On Saturday, Nov. 19, the church will have its 32nd annual Cookie Walk. You can create your own box of decorated and specialty cookies sold by the pound ($7), and fudge, divinity, and other candies by the half pound ($5) including allergy friendly and vegan treats. Stop by the church between 9 a.m. and noon on Nov. 19 to buy some cookies. You can also preorder treats and pick them up on the 19th between 9 a.m. and noon by calling the church office at 812-372-2851.

Flintwood Wesleyan Church — Sunday morning worship begins at 9 a.m. with the Amplify (contemporary) service. Sunday school begins at 10 a.m. with classes for all age groups. The Well (traditional) service begins at 11 a.m. Both worship services are led by Pastor Wesley Jones. The church’s Sunday Amplify services are livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube.

Wednesday activities begin with a meal served at 5:30 p.m. in the friendship center. The iKids program begins at 6:15 p.m. and youth meet downstairs in the sanctuary at 6:30 p.m. Prayer team meets in the prayer room downstairs in the main building at 6:15 p.m., and adult Bible study meets at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. Garden City Christian Church — Sunday School classes are available for infants through adults at 9 a.m. Pastor Brian Gilroy continues to lead the church in the sermon series through 1 Corinthians during the 10 a.m. Sunday morning worship service.

Wednesday evening youth group, lead by interim youth minister Ryan Croft, runs from 6 to 8 p.m. for grades 6-12. Trail Life Troop IN-0110 meets twice monthly on Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m.

On Sunday, Oct. 30, from 4 to 5:30 p.m., the church invites the community to join for a free evening of fun, family-friendly, side-splitting comedy and mind-blowing magic. Featuring internationally known magical entertainer Brad Brown. Kids will receive a bag of candy after the show.

On Nov. 1, an Alzheimer’s and Dementia Caregiver Support Group will begin meeting on the first Tuesday of each month, from 4:30 until 6 p.m.

Mount Pleasant Christian Union Church — The church invites the community to visit their little 150-year-old country church for a 10:30 a.m. Sunday service. The church preaches out of the King James Bible and sings out of hymn books.

Newbern United Methodist Church — The church is practicing strict COVID-19 preventative measures. Masks are required. All activities are postponed until further notice except for Sunday service at 10:30 a.m. and online Bible study each Wednesday at 7 p.m. via Zoom.

Old Union United Church of Christ — Pastor Al White, the church’s transitional pastor, is leading worship and sharing messages that encourage firm foundations of faith in Jesus. Simple church — simply Jesus.

The church has added a time for discipleship growth at 9 a.m. on Sunday mornings. There’s always a coffee and donut time downstairs before the morning worship time at 10 a.m.

Petersville United Methodist Church — Pastor Rebecca Milne will be using scripture from Luke 18:9-14 when she gives her message, “Listen With Care,” on Sunday, Oct. 23, at the 9 a.m. service. She will emphasize that in order to bless our neighbor, Jesus invites us to listen.

Kathy Bush will serve as worship and song leader; Connie Nolting and Chris Kimerling will be at the piano and the organ. Teresa Covert will share a message with the children. Joe Bush runs the audio/visual system, and Karen Mize videotapes the service; it is available online later in the day. Fellowship and refreshments will follow the service.

Sunday evening at 5:30 p.m., the study, “The Chosen,” will continue with a video followed by a discussion led by Pastor Milne. Those attending may bring their own snack or brown bag supper.

On Saturday, Oct. 22 at 9 a.m. at the church, there will be a “Packing Party” to prepare 650 boxes of hot chocolate packets (8 to a box) for the Love Chapel Christmas Baskets.

The children of the Petersville neighborhood are invited to visit “Trunk or Treat” in the church parking lot on Oct. 29 beginning at 5:30 p.m. Those attending are invited to visit the Fellowship Hall for a bowl of soup.

Sandy Hook United Methodist Church — Sandy Hook United Methodist Church gathers weekly for in-person and online worship. The church will offer two services on Oct. 22 — the traditional service at 8:45 a.m. and the contemporary service at 11 a.m. Pastor Paul Dazet will bring a message about “Listen With Care” as part of the new sermon series Won’t You Be My Neighbor.

Nursery is available for children 2 and younger from 8:30 a.m. through the end of second service. Sunday School is offered for all ages between the two services.

There will be an outdoor movie today, “Minions: The Rise of Gru,” at 7:30 p.m. Bring your blankets or lawn chairs at dusk and enjoy a movie and lots of popcorn!

Trunk or Treat will be offered this year from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Halloween, Monday, Oct. 31.

St. Paul Lutheran Church — Pastor Doug Bauman will present the message “True Loyalty” based on Luke 18:9-17 Sunday at the 8 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. worship services.

Radio worship service is every Sunday at 9:30 a.m. on WYGS 91.1 FM, which also broadcasts the Lutheran Hour every Sunday at 7 p.m.

Corinthian Baptist Church — Corinthian Baptist Church of North Vernon will be celebrating its 100th Church Anniversary with a special service on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 3 p.m. The theme will be “Built on the Rock: 100 years of Service”, Luke 6:48.

The speaker for the celebration will be Pastor Anthony B. Toran, Galatian Baptist Church, New Albany. He is the Moderator of the Southeastern District of the Indiana Missionary Baptist Convention and first vice president of the Indiana Missionary Baptist State Convention. Pastor Toran was recently appointed Social Justice Chair for the National Missionary Baptist Convention of America.
