Thomas De La Cruz // Columbus North sophomore soccer player

De La Cruz netted a goal and an assist and made several defensive stops Saturday to help lead the Bull Dogs to a 2-1 semistate win against Cathedral.

His performance last week: “I felt like it’s been my best performance. It felt pretty good.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “Pray to God and remember my sister (Tapanga Eudy, who died in a car accident last year).”

Favorite drink: “I like orange juice.”

Favorite food: “Tacos”

Favorite class: “Culinary”

Favorite sports team: “I like Stanford”

Favorite athlete: “Cristiano Ronaldo”

Role model: “Cristiano Ronaldo.”

Best advice: “Like my coaches tell me, ‘Take it one game at a time. Don’t think too far ahead.’”

Athletics goal: “To be D-I one day.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Brazil, because of the way they play soccer there and to learn about the culture.”

Julia Kiesler // Columbus North senior cross-country runner

Julia Kiesler

Kiesler broke her own school record and set the Eagle Park course record Saturday by winning the Brown County Semistate in 17 minutes, 17.3 seconds for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles) and leading the Bull Dogs to the team title.

Her performance last week: “I’m really happy with it. I’m proud of myself and was excited with it.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I always work on nutrition, make sure I get enough nutrients in me and appropriate foods.”

Favorite drink: “I like orange juice.”

Favorite food: “Any type of oatmeal.”

Favorite class: “I really like English.”

Favorite sports team: “University of Utah”

Favorite athlete: “Katelyn Tuohy”

Role model: “My mom (Alison Kiesler)”

Best advice: “Always work on having a positive mindset because you can accomplish anything with a positive mindset.”

Athletics goal: “I’d like to go sub-17 (at the Running Lane Nationals) in Alabama.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Probably Greece, because it’s really pretty there.”
