Celebrate Nala 5K set for Saturday

Photo provided A Nala Fund set up through the Heritage Fund — The Community Foundation of Bartholomew County, is being used to help local vets provide emergency medical care to dogs in need. The fund is named after Nala, who died in October 2020. She was a pet of David and Angie May.

A fundraising event for The Nala Fund, the Celebrate Nala 5K, will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Noblitt Park.

The Nala Fund was established in November 2020 through the Heritage Fund of Bartholomew County in memory of the AEI/May family dog to provide medical care for dogs in need.

Many donors and sponsors have supported the fund, enabling the Nala Fund to provide support for more than 50 dogs through 16 different veterinary clinics in the past two years.

The third annual Celebrate Nala 5K is being led by two CSA New Tech seniors, Holden Conner and Alexis Yanez Cisneros, as their senior project.

The Bartholomew County Humane Society and Columbus Animal Care Services will be onsite from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. to offer free dog microchipping. Dogs are welcome to attend and walk/run the 5K.
