Flames Squirt team takes third in Big Bear tourney

Several Columbus youth and high school hockey teams were in action last weekend.

Columbus Flames Squirt A finished third in the Big Bear Gasoline Alley Tournament, falling to Junior Fuel Black 5-2, tying Decatur Flames 2-2 and Kirkwood Stars 2-2 and tying the Decatur Flames again 3-3. Carter Harris and Max Perez each netted three goals and one assist; Maddox Coy had two goals and one assist; Keaton Grube recorded one goal and one assist; Logan Barringer notched two assists and Dalton Larsh, Thomas King and Robby Orgass all added assist. Cayden Long saved 59 of 70 shots for a save percentage of 84%.

Columbus Icemen fell to the Bloomington Blades 3-1. Will Kushner scored the goal off assists from Caden Graham and John Ferguson. Jake McMullen saved 24 of 26 shots for a 92% save percentage. The third goal was an empty-net goal.

Columbus Icemen Prep lost to South Stars White 5-1. Drew Weed scored the goal off an assist from Cole Vreeland. Syndey Morrow was in net.

Columbus Flames Bantam B won 4-1 and tied 1-1 against the Louisville Ice Cardinals. Tyler Hubler scored two goals; Sawyer Patterson amd Tyson Tyner each had one goal and one assist; Bryce McDonald netted one goal and Blake Avery, Noah Dornfield and Leah Doig all added one assist. Lane Barringer was in net.

Columbus Flames Peewee A fell to the Columbus Comets 11-3 and 8-0. Ryan McGhehey recorded one goal and one assist, Carter Davis and Rowan Correll each scored one goal and Simon Barnes and Kai Bergmann each had one assist. Canyon Long was in net with a save percentage of 69%

Columbus Flames Peewee B lost to the Columbus Voyagers 4-1 and 3-1. Garrett Uy netted one goal and one assist, Ayden Richardson scored one goal and Cooper Ross added one assist. Gabe Marsh was in net.
