COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus Mayor Jim Lienhoop announced Wednesday that after serving two terms in the mayor’s office, he will not seek re-election next year as he and his wife Pam have concluded it is time to retire after he finishes his current term.

Lienhoop said that when he was elected Columbus mayor about eight years ago, “it was an honor that was humbling and inspiring.”

“It has been a pleasure to work with our city’s public servants as we have responded to challenges and opportunities along the way,” Lienhoop said in a prepared statement sent to media. “Our city has been well-served by a diligent council, committed volunteers and dedicated staff.”

Among the accomplishments of the Lienhoop administration is the completion of the railroad overpass, the formation of ASAP to address substance use disorder, development of the downtown apartments and grocer and NexusPark, with more in the planning stages.

“Columbus is a great community with a bright future — it was recently chosen as the Community of the Year,” Lienhoop noted. “Pam and I will continue to be involved and invested in it. For the opportunity to serve as mayor, we say ‘thank you’ and ‘God bless.’
