Thomas “Tom” James Rohm

Thomas James Rohm, 65, of Columbus, passed away unexpectedly Monday, November 7, 2022, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. Tom was born January 4, 1957, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of James Roberts and Patty Jo Voyles Rohm.

Tom graduated from Columbus North High School in 1975. He was the captain of the golf team his junior and senior year, led the team in nearly every match, and lettered all 3 years. After high school, he attended Indiana State University for a year before transferring to Indiana University where he became a member of Theta Chi fraternity. Tom’s first job was at Harrison Lake Country Club when he was in 7th grade. He spent his career as an engineer at Faurecia, where he worked for over 35 years until 2015. Shortly after, he started his second career as a Global NVH Lead at Katcon, where he was still employed. He also was working at Harrison Lake Country Club at the time of his death.

Tom lived life to the fullest. He was extremely competitive and excelled at everything he did, especially golf. His backpacking trips with his sons, mountain biking, road cycling, basketball, baseball, softball, running, are just a few examples of his athleticism and passion for sports. He was an avid fan of IU basketball. He took pride in his home improvement projects and put his unique touch on everything he did.

“Grampy” loved watching his 5 grandkids in sports and all their activities. In recent years, he loved spending quality time and making memories with his high school sweetheart, Jan. He will be deeply missed by all his family and friends. Survivors include his sons, Jeff (Danielle Smith) Rohm of Bargersville, Todd (Danielle Ebel) of Columbus; grandchildren, Natalie, Dane, Jayda, Cooper, and Connor; sisters, Kathy (Doug) Gorbett of Hanover, Pam (Greg) Ison of Madison; mother, Patty Rohm of Columbus; nieces and nephews, Ryan Gorbett, Karen Gorbett, Adam (Leigh) Korengel, Kate (Dave) Sutter, Chad Ison, and his companion Jan Pazar of Nashville. He was preceded in death by his father, James Rohm.

In keeping with the family’s request, his body will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday at Barkes, Weaver, &Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike with Craig Thayer officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service Friday at the funeral home.
