Cougars top Olympians

Columbus East opened the season Saturday with a 115.5 to 68.5 loss at Bloomington North.

Freshman Cassidy Furnish won the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 34.36 seconds and the 500 freestyle in 5:55.82 to lead the Olympians. Gabbie Meier took the diving competition with 195.65 points.

Claire Brooks finished second in both the 200 IM (2:44.82) and 100 freestyle (1:04.72). Josie Havenaar took second in the 100 backstroke (1:11.07), and East was second in the 200 medley (2:10.30) and 400 freestyle (4:22.19) relays.

Olympians fall twice

FISHERS — Columbus East had the unenviable challenge of facing two top-five teams in one day and fell at Class 4A No. 4 Fishers 73-46 and 4A No. 5 Hamilton Southeastern 94-42.

Saige Stahl led the Olympians with 20 points and five rebounds against Fishers. Leah Bachmann added 11 points and five rebounds.

Stahl led East (1-2) with 21 points and 10 rebounds against HSE. Jenna Guse added nine points.

Panthers down Irish

KNIGHTSTOWN — Juliann Woodard scored 30 points to lead Jennings County to a 72-66 win against Cathedral at the historic Hoosier Gym in Knightstown.

Mollie Ernstes scored 15 points for the Panthers (4-0). Manto Vadell had eight, and Maddie McIntosh added seven.

Cougars edge Eagles

NASHVILLE — Brown County rallied from a 10-point deficit after three quarters to make it close, but Bloomington North held on for a 51-48 victory.

Maddie Huff led the Eagles (1-3) with 15 points. Ava Stogsdill scored 11, and Savannah Oden added 10.
