Two arrested after police pursuit

Columbus police officers arrested two people on multiple charges after a vehicle pursuit on Thursday afternoon.

At approximately 2:40 p.m., CPD officers pulled over a vehicle that was connected to a recent shoplifting incident, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman. When officers approached the vehicle, the driver, who was later identified as Christopher A. Riddle, 43, of 1848 Ludlow Ave., Indianapolis, sped away from officers.

A pursuit ensued that covered several streets on the east side of Columbus. During the pursuit, Riddle and his passenger, Rachel A. Cardoso-Nelson, 33, of 1951 McKinley Ave., Columbus, disregarded several stop signs and drove through yards in an attempt to evade law enforcement, Harris said.

Minutes later, the suspects’ vehicle came to stop in the backyard of a residence in the 1900 block of Wallace Avenue where Riddle and Nelson exited the vehicle and attempted to flee from officers on foot. Both were apprehended moments later, Harris said.

During a search of the suspects’ vehicle, the officers located narcotics, drug paraphernalia, along with separately packaged bags of methamphetamine along with syringes, marijuana, and digital scales. Suspected stolen merchandise from the shoplifting incident was also recovered.

Riddle and Nelson were transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on the following preliminary charges:

—Riddle: Resisting law enforcement (Level 6 felony), Marion County warrant, possession of syringe (Level 6 felony), dealing in methamphetamine (Level 5 felony), possession of marijuana (Class B misdemeanor), possession of drug paraphernalia (Class C misdemeanor), possession of methamphetamine (Level 6 felony), reckless driving (Class A misdemeanor). He is being held with no bond.

— Rachel Cardoso-Nelson: Theft (Class A misdemeanor), resisting law enforcement (Class A misdemeanor), possession of syringe (Level 6 felony), dealing in methamphetamine (Level 5 felony), possession of marijuana (Class B misdemeanor), possession of drug paraphernalia (Class C misdemeanor), possession of methamphetamine (Level 6 felony). Her bond was set at $246,000, jail officials said.
