Church donates to Love Chapel

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has partnered with a local Bartholomew County food pantry to provide much needed commodities by providing $35,000 worth of commodities through the Church’s Bishops’ Storehouse in Indianapolis.

The donation was to Love Chapel, known as the Ecumenical Assembly of Bartholomew County Churches.

As the bishop of the Columbus 1st Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jack Bartnett was able to help facilitate a large donation of 36,000 pounds, or 18 tons of food from the Church’s Salt Lake City Humanitarian Aid Center in the summer of 2021.

Love Chapel will be allowed to take its own truck to Indianapolis to the Church’s bishops’ storehouse and select needed items.

As Christmas approaches, Love Chapel will be organizing Christmas baskets that will contain items such as a ham, brownie mix, instant potatoes, and canned goods. In years past it would take about $35,000 to cover the costs for the Christmas baskets. This year, they will need $88,000, according to volunteers.

Twenty-three employees work at Love Chapel, but volunteers are always needed. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has an app (or website) called JustServe, that can be accessed by anyone to look for volunteer opportunities.
