A singing star with local connections and a robust Columbus-area cheering section was among the three finalists last night in the season finale of the NBC talent competition series “The Voice.”

Morgan Myles, a longtime touring musician based in Nashville, Tennessee, had been among the five finalists from 56 contestants who began Season 22 of the show.

Myles and the other finalists performed on the hit series Monday and Tuesday, and the field was narrowed to three before the winner, country singer Bryce Leatherwood, was revealed on Tuesday night’s finale. Singer Bodie also was among the final three.

Myles, 35, is the daughter of Karen (Thompson) Pinsonneault and Dan Pinsonneault, who graduated from Columbus North High School in 1975. They all now live in Nashville, Tennessee, where Myles has been a touring musician for many years.

On her way to the finals, Myles dedicated a heartfelt rendition of the Lady Gaga ballad “Always Remember Us This Way” to her late grandfather, Luke Pinsonneault, and to her cousin Mackenzie “Mac” DeClue, formerly of Columbus, who died on Dec. 9, 2018, at age 33. Both died after battling brain cancer.

Myles is a frequent visitor to the Columbus area — particularly during the holidays. Both of her grandmothers still live in the area, as do three aunts, multiple cousins and extended family.

During her final performances on Monday and Tuesday, Myles covered Little Big Town’s “Girl Crush” and Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and also performed a duet with her coach on the series, Camila Cabello, performing Cabello’s song “Never Be the Same.”

In a previous interview as she made her way to the finals, Myles said that as excited as she was for the opportunity to perform on the show before a national audience, she also was looking forward to conclusion of weeks of regimented preparation, rehearsal and performance.

She explained that for the run of the show, which began airing in September, she and the other contestants had been living in a hotel and largely saw only members of the cast and crew.

“I just want to relax and drive my car and cook in a kitchen and walk my dog and work out and all that normal stuff,” she said with a laugh earlier this month.
