Columbus North High School’s music program has announced its new leader to take over as director of bands.

Keith Burton, North’s assistant band director, has accepted an offer to become head director, said Gina Pleak, assistant superintendent of human resources for the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp.

Detrich Morrison-Jones has accepted an offer to serve as assistant director.

Pleak said both appointments still need to be approved by the school board and will be considered in a vote at the board’s Jan. 9 meeting.

Bryan Munoz, who previously served as North’s director of bands, stepped down at the end of the fall semester to take a position with Music Travel Consultants.

Burton, who will take on Munoz’s role, joined Columbus North as assistant director in 2002 after previously serving as band director at North Decatur High School.

Morrison-Jones’ experience includes serving as a student teacher at BCSC from January to May of 2021, where he instructed AP Music Theory, orchestra, three jazz bands, marching band and two concert bands. He has held music education positions at a variety of schools since 2018 as well.

Morrison-Jones earned a bachelor’s degree in instrumental music education from Indiana University Bloomington in 2021 and is working toward a master’s of music in wind conducting at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
