COLUMBUS, Ind. — City officials have granted Arbor Homes’ request for the city of Columbus to annex more land near Abbey Place.

Columbus City Council voted Tuesday to approve the second reading of an ordinance annexing 30.85 acres of property located at 2455 Lowell Road in Columbus Township, as well as a resolution adopting a fiscal plan for the annexation.

“Arbor Homes’ intent is to expand the Abbey Place subdivision to this property with approximately 42 single-family detached homes on individual lots,” the developer wrote in its application. The proposed annexation site is north of the Abbey Place subdivision.

According to the fiscal plan for the annexation, the projected population for the area is 101 people, based on the 42-lot concept and Columbus’s average of 2.41 persons per household. The property would initially be assigned to District 5 of Columbus City Council.

Following annexation, the developers’ next step is to prepare a subdivision plat for review by the Columbus Plan Commission, said City/County Planning Director Jeff Bergman.
