La QUINTA, Calif. — Tyler Duncan fired an opening-round 8-under-par 64 Thursday and is tied for second place in The American Express.
The Columbus North graduate overcame a bogey on No. 3 with four consecutive birdies on Holes 4-through-7 and shot 3-under 33 on the front nine. He had five more birdies on the back nine for a 31.
Davis Thompson leads the tournament at 10-under 62. Duncan is tied for second with Taylor Montgomery, Matti Schmid, Sam Burns and Jon Rahm.
