Walker introduces several bills in state Senate

Sen. Greg Walker, R-Columbus

Sen. Greg Walker, R-Columbus, has introduced several bills in the Indiana General Assembly.

Walker, along with Sen. Eric Koch, R-Bedford, have authored SB 33, which would direct the Indiana Department of Environmental Management and the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission to conduct a joint study on the decommissioning and disposal of solar panels and report findings by Nov. 1.

The joint study would consider, among other things, the creation of a state program to manage the decommissioning and disposal of solar panels and a financial mechanism to fund the effort.

Additionally, Walker has authored SB 224, which would only allow public questions or referendums be placed on ballot for general elections or a municipal general election only if the election district for the public question is contained entirely within a municipality.

The measure also would allow local election officials to use a non-certified electronic device to display or print a sample ballot.

“For example, they’d like to be able to use, let’s say an iPad or another electronic device that’s not certified as a piece of election equipment, but only for displaying a sample ballot or maybe printing a sample ballot out for a voter,” Walker said.

The bill also would make it a Level 6 felony for someone to attempt to influence an election worker by making threats, initiating criminal proceedings, damaging their business, among other things.

Walker also has authored SB 411, which authorizes local governments to adopt a commercial property assessed clean energy program as a financing mechanism to allow commercial property owners to obtain financing for energy efficient improvements.

In addition, Walker has introduced SB 223, which provides a deduction from adjusted gross income for any premiums paid during a taxable year for a long term care insurance policy purchased in a state other than Indiana that is considered to have reciprocity with Indiana under a long term care insurance program.
