Columbus Fire Department announces 3 promotions

The Columbus Fire Department has promoted three department members to fill officer vacancies left by the recent retirement of Battalion Chief Jeff Cain. These promotions were effective Jan. 16, following Cain’s retirement on Jan. 6.

Captain Mike Sieverding has been promoted to battalion chief. Battalion Chief Sieverding is a 25-year veteran of the department who had been promoted to Captain in 2013. Sieverding holds a fire officer certification through the State of Indiana. Additional certifications include: confined space rescue technician, paramedic, hazardous materials technician, rope rescue technician, vehicle and machinery rescue technician and fire instructor.

Lieutenant Aaron Eichel has been promoted to Captain. Captain Eichel has served 16 years with the Columbus Fire Department and was been promoted to lieutenant in 2019. His certifications include: confined space rescue technician, emergency medical technician, rope rescue technician, swift water rescue technician, vehicle and machinery rescue technician, hazardous materials technician, fire officer, fire instructor and safety officer.

Firefighter Chris Tuttle has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant. Lieutenant Tuttle has served 16 years with CFD and holds certifications including: emergency medical technician, rope rescue technician, vehicle and machinery rescue technician, fire officer, safety officer and fire instructor.
