Iva Sorgius

Iva Sorgius, 91, of Columbus, passed away Friday January 27, 2023 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. She was born May 22, 1931 in Columbus, the daughter of Benjamin and Sarah (Moffitt) Skinner.

Iva was a longtime active member of First Christian Church where she volunteered in various areas where needed. She was an excellent cook and everyone knew if they had Iva’s recipe it would be delicious. She was retired from the Columbus Regional Hospital where she had worked for many years.

Funeral services will be held at Noon on Saturday February 4, 2023 in the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Steve Yeaton officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until Noon on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Iva to the First Christian Church Tower Fund or to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana through the funeral home.

Iva is survived by her husband, Bill Sorgius; daughters, Linda Barringer and Lois Kimery, both of Columbus and Deb (Paul) Kreitl of Indianapolis; step daughters, Pat (Joe) Doles of Chicago and Judi (Marty) Knies of Greenwood; step sons, Mike (Leanne) Sorgius of Florida and Steve (Barb) Sorgius of Greenwood; 16 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Iva was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Gerald Barringer; sisters, Ruth Lankey, Thelma Land, LaVonne Taylor and Anise Gates; brothers, Chester Carl Skinner, Howard Skinner, Woodrow M. Skinner and Ralph Skinner.
