Legion seeks volunteers to pick up wreaths

Columbus American Legion Post 24 needs volunteers Saturday to help remove the wreaths that have stood at veterans’ graves in the Garland Brook Cemetery since early December.

The removal of the wreaths will mark the end of the 8th Annual Wreaths Across Bartholomew County Event sponsored by Post 24.

“Volunteers helped us place the wreaths to honor the Veterans during the darkest winter months but now it’s time to ready the cemetery grounds for spring mowing and the wreaths must be removed,” said event organizer Dwayne Bean.

Depending on the number of volunteers, the work can be completed in about an hour and a half.

Anyone interested in volunteering should show up at the flag pole at the front center of Garland Brook Cemetery on Gladstone Avenue at noon on Saturday.

In the event of inclement weather, the event will be postponed until the following weekend.

After the wreaths are collected, refreshments will be served at American Legion Post 24.
