IUPUC is co-hosting an event at the IUPUI Campus Center in Indianapolis, “Online Exploitation and Youth Safety: A Community Discussion,” on Feb. 15. The event will highlight how to prevent online exploitation, current community trends and survivor resources.
Speakers include:
- Karen Maher, Director of Anti-Trafficking Initiatives, Indiana Coalition to End Sexual Assault & Human Trafficking
- Darcy Wade, Director of What Would I Do, Indiana Protection of Abused and Trafficked Humans Taskforce (IPATH) Youth Working Group Co-Chair
- Jeremey Greenlee, IPATH Anti-Demand Working Group
- Yvonne Moore and Ethan Boring, Department of Child Services
“According to the DHS, FBI and NCMEC, child exploitation, sextortion, and the distribution of child sexual abuse materials has become a public health crisis. With more children online now more than ever, the risks have skyrocketed,” said Darcy Wade, one of the event speakers. “The IPATH Taskforce is hosting a critical and urgent conversation about how to prevent online exploitation, trends in our community, and resources that are available to survivors.”
The event is free and parents/caregivers, youth workers, educators and legislators are welcome to attend.
It will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the IUPUI Campus Center, Room 450, at 420 University Blvd. in Indianapolis. There is a fee to park in the IUPUI parking garage.
