An Indianapolis man was arrested by Columbus police officers on multiple felony charges moments after he was accused of robbing a downtown business.

At approximately 12:38 p.m. Thursday, Columbus police officers responded to the Moose Lodge, 330 Eighth St., in regards to an armed robbery that just occurred. The officers were advised that a man, later identified as Robert Carl Christopher, 55, robbed the business at gunpoint and fled the area on foot, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

CPD officers observed Christopher fleeing on foot and pursued him on foot where he was apprehended a short time later in the 1000 block of Franklin Street, Harris said. Officers recovered a firearm that Christopher had in his possession along with an undisclosed amount of currency.

Christopher was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on the following preliminary charges — armed robbery, resisting law enforcement, interfering with the reporting of a crime, criminal confinement and intimidation with a deadly weapon.

This investigation in this case is ongoing, Harris said.
