John Crawford Gage

BLOOMINGTON

John (“Johnny”) Crawford Gage, 45, passed away at his home in Bloomington on Saturday, February 4, 2023. Born August 21, 1977 in San Isidro, Lima, Perú, John was the son of Juan Carlos Gago Quezada and Mechael Dawn (Crawford) Charbonneau. He was a 1995 graduate of Bloomington North High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana University, Bloomington.

He worked as a graphic designer for his father’s company, Bordado, and was also known for and sought out for his commissioned artwork. A talented and gifted artist, his true passion was sketching and creating CGI movies in the Star Wars universe. More recently, he renewed his interest in collectibles from his childhood including G.I. Joe and Transformers, even creating his own model G.I. Joe plane. He also had a love for cooking and was able to recreate any restaurant dish, often making them even better. He enjoyed the challenge of creating recipes from many different cultures and particularly excelled in Peruvian cuisine.

Above all, he was someone who took care of others. For him, family was always the most important. While he was there for his loved ones in countless ways, it was through his passion for cooking where he most expressed his love for family. He possessed a wonderful sense of humor, particularly when it came to puns, and provided endless entertainment and laughter to all of those who knew him.

He is survived by both parents of Bloomington, sister Jessica Gago of Portland, Oregon; step-sibling Skylar and step-nephew, Kai Charbonneau of Fairview, Oregon; grandmother Elba Rosa Quezada Moreno of Orlando, Florida; aunts Roxana Gago Quezada and Monica Gago Quezada also of Orlando, Florida and Nicole Beth (Danny) Hollander of Brown County; close family friend Kim Talbert of Greenwood; grand-aunt Deanna Beth (John) Moore of Bedford; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Howard Wayne and Carmen Jo (Stafford) Crawford of Columbus, Indiana and Juan Antonio Gago Thomas of Lima, Perú; and stepfather, Gary Wayne Charbonneau of Bloomington.
