Prep sports notebook: Wrestlers selected Academic All-State

The Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association recently announced its Academic All-State team.

Columbus East seniors Mitchell Williams, Bo Wagner, Liam Krueger and Tommy Morrill and Columbus North seniors Cody Thurnall and Liam Phillips are on the First Team. East senior Kyler Rimer, North junior Keller DeSpain and Jennings County seniors Vincent Pittman, Teagan Trotter and Evan Sochacki and junior RJ Barberis are on the Second Team.

Hauser’s Shipp nets 100th win

Hauser girls basketball coach Kyle Shipp recorded his 100th win of his career coaching following the Jets’ victory over Milan earlier this month.

Shipp completed his ninth season as a head coach and his first at Hauser. He spent eight seasons as the girls coach at Whiteland.

Swimmers set for sectional

The Columbus East and Columbus North boys swimmers will compete in the East Central Sectional, and Jennings County will compete in the Floyd Central Sectional on Thursday and Saturday.

Prelims begin at 6 p.m. Thursday. The top eight in each event qualify for Saturday’s finals, while the ninth-through-16th finishers in each event make the consolation heats.

Diving begins at 9 a.m. Saturday. Diving finals will be held within the swimming finals, which start at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Cougars to play in semistate

The Trinity Lutheran girls basketball team will play in the Class A New Albany Semistate on Saturday.

The fourth-ranked Cougars will play top-ranked Lanesville at noon. Bloomfield takes on Jac-Cen-Del at 10 a.m. in the other semifinal match. The championship is slated for 8 p.m. Saturday night.

Due to the Trinity girls playing in the semistate, the Cougar boys basketball contest at Madison has been moved to Thursday, with the tipoff times remaining the same (6 p.m. JV/7:30 varsity).

Boys hoops draw set for Sunday

The IHSAA boys basketball tournament draw will take place on Sunday.

The draw will be streamed live on ihsaatv.org beginning at 5 p.m.
