Judah Nickoll // Columbus East junior swimmer
Nickoll won the 100-yard butterfly and 100 backstroke to help lead the Olympians in a 108-77 loss at Bloomington North to close the regular season.
His performance last week: “We were starting to taper down for sectional and starting to hone in, and I feel like I did good. I had my best race, and I’m ready to keep going.”
Do you do anything special to prepare? “I always stay hydrated during the day and I make sure to stretch often before the meet and get in the right headspace and mindset.”
Favorite drink: “Orange Mango Body Armor”
Favorite food: “My mom makes really good chili, so that’s probably my favorite.”
Favorite class: “Architecture”
Favorite sports team: “Indiana University basketball. We’re actually good this year, so I’m kind of enjoying that.”
Favorite athlete: “Michael Phelps”
Role model: “My dad (John Nickoll)”
Athletics goal: “To beat the 100 backstroke (school) record and make it to state this year.”
If you could travel anywhere: “Alaska, because I think it’s beautiful, and I want to go there someday.”

Avery Witt // Jennings County junior swimmer
Avery Witt
Witt set a school record in finishing 26th in the 100-yard backstroke and was 29th in the 200 freestyle in Friday’s preliminaries of the Girls Swimming and Diving State Finals.
Her performance last week: “I had a little bit of health issues at the beginning of the season, so I had to work really hard, and that I dropped time shows the hard work paid off.”
Do you do anything special to prepare? “I like to listen to music.”
Favorite drink: “Water or Sprite”
Favorite food: “Pasta”
Favorite class: “I really like Chemistry.”
Favorite sports team: “Cincinnati Bengals”
Favorite athlete: “Katie Ledecky”
Role model: “My mom (Abby Stearns)”
Best advice: “Just work hard and keep persevering even when it gets really hard.”
Athletics goal: “To make it back in the top 16 or top eight in state next year.”
