musical ‘Oklahoma!’

Jennings County High School students Bryson Webster as Curly McClain and Kaitlyn Davies as Laurey Williams are among the cast members of this weekend’s presentation of the musical ‘Oklahoma’ with performances at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings at the school auditorium in North Vernon.

Talks, lectures, classes

The Be Heart Smart program is for anyone who wants to reduce their risk for heart disease. Learn how to monitor your risk factors for heart disease and make simple changes to your daily routine that will improve your heart health. This program is four one-hour lessons. NAMI Family-to-Family is a free, eight-session education program for family, friends and significant others of adults with mental health conditions. NAMI Family-to-Family provides information about mental health conditions, communication, problem solving, treatment and recovery. Jennings County High School’s music department will be presenting the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic, “Oklahoma!” Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students and $5 for children requiring their own seat and are available at jenningscountychoirs.com or at the door.

BLACKWELL PARK STORYWALK, Blackwell Park, 1550 Whitney Court, Columbus. Enjoy some fresh air while strolling the Bartholomew County Public Library’s StoryWalk. Together with the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department, the library is excited to feature “A Hat for Mrs. Goldman” by Michelle Edwards in February. The StoryWalk is located along the People Trail near the Pollinator Park in Blackwell Park.

Galleries, museums, exhibits

BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY, 524 Third St., Columbus. The museum is open Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. BCHS hosts two permanent exhibits that share the history and heritage of Bartholomew County. Learn about our county through interactive, hands-on exhibits that include a map table, notable people, county timeline, Then and Now, Did You Know, early industrialists and videos of Reeves steam engines. The historical society also hosts rotating exhibits throughout the year featuring items from their extensive collection. Admission is free, with a donation suggested. YELLOW TRAIL MUSEUM/VISITOR CENTER, west side of Hope Town Square, 644 Main St., Hope. The museum is currently open by appointment only through March by calling 812-546-8020 or 812-343-3798. ATTERBURY-BAKALAR AIR MUSEUM, located at Columbus Municipal Airport, 4742 Ray Boll Blvd., Columbus, is currently closed for winter upgrades. The museum will reopen in March. Special tours, library access and media center programs may still be scheduled during the closed months by calling 812-372-4356.
