Letter: Editorial cartoon depicted police in an unfair light

In the Saturday, Feb. 11 edition of the Republic on the Opinion page, a cartoon was shown with a teacher asking a little boy what he wanted to be when he grows up, to which he replied “safe from police”. In my opinion this was in very poor taste. It reflects the belief that police are bad.

Like any other barrel of apples, there are probably some bad ones, but percentage-wise, I believe that to be a very small percentage. I would think that a newspaper like the Republic would not allow something that so blatantly puts a blight on our police. Shame on you.

I believe in law and order. I believe in our police, both local and state, that they are honest hard-working men and women who strive to protect our communities. I personally believe that the newspaper owes an apology both to our police and to the general public for such degradation of our police.
