Sheriff Chris Lane names Maj. John Martoccia as chief deputy

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Bartholomew County Sheriff Chris Lane has appointed Maj. John Martoccia as chief deputy.

Martoccia, formally the commander of the jail, began his career in law enforcement in 1994 in the Corrections Division of the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office. He graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 1995 after being promoted to Merit Deputy.

During his 29 years of service, he has served as patrol deputy, detective, narcotics detective, patrol supervisor and jail commander.

Martoccia is a graduate of Columbus East High School as well as Vincennes University. He completed the FBI National Academy in 2012, and is among the less than 1% of law enforcement officers who are part of that elite group.

Martoccia graduated from Leadership Bartholomew County in 2011. He resides in Bartholomew County with his wife, Aimee, and their three children.

“Maj. Martoccia has held every rank within the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s
Office and has worked in every division at the department. He has devoted his life to serving the citizens of Bartholomew County and I am proud for him to continue his service as my chief deputy,” Lane said.
