East’s Beyer to swim in consolations

Brady Beyer

INDIANAPOLIS — Brady Beyer made it to swim one final day, but unfortunately for the Columbus East senior, it won’t be where he had hoped.

Beyer will swim in today’s consolation finals in both of his individual events. The Columbus East senior posted the 14th-fastest qualifying time in the 500-yard freestyle (4 minutes, 38.01 seconds) and 16th-fastest in the 100 breaststroke (57.74).

The top eight in each event made this afternoon’s swimming finals, while 9-through-16 in each event made the consolation heats.

The Olympians’ two relay teams did not make it back to today. Junior Judah Nickoll, sophomore Misha Machavariani, Beyer and junior Cavan Stilson finished 25th in both the 200 medley relay (1:38.67) and 400 freestyle relay (3:18.00).

“All of them just looked nervous, a little jittery,” East coach Doug Trueblood said. “I think even though Brady had swam at state before and in Junior Nationals, there might have been a little bit of nerves and had him not in his normal focus. It’s not quite what he wanted, but he still went out and raced.”

East’s Gavin Day will compete in the diving preliminaries beginning at 9 a.m. today at IUPUI’s Indiana University Natatorium. Semifinals will follow, and the diving finals will be during the normal break in the swimming finals and consolations, which begin at 1 p.m.
