Rachel Sabotin

Sabotin earns All-MAC honor

OXFORD, Ohio — Rachel Sabotin earned second-team All-Mid-American Conference honors after helping Akron win the MAC women’s swimming championship last weekend.

Sabotin, a junior from Trinity Lutheran who lives in Columbus, finished fourth in the 200-yard individual medley (1:59.74), fifth in the 200 butterfly (1:59.93) and eighth in the 100 butterfly (53.72).

Betsy King, a Ball State junior from Columbus North, finished 20th in the 50 freestyle (23.81) and 21st in the 100 freestyle (51.62).

Olivia Morlok, an Ohio University junior from North, swam the 1,650 freestyle in 17:26.48 and the 400 IM in 4:47.26.

IUPUC falls in 11 innings

BATAVIA, Ohio — Cincinnati-Clermont pushed across a run in the bottom of the 11th inning Sunday to pull out a 7-6 baseball win against IUPUC.

Ben Fricke went 2 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs, and Peyton Blinn went 2 for 6 for the Crimson Pride (1-11). Hauser graduate Trey Johnson also homered.

Jonathan Moreno, the third of five IUPUC pitchers, took the loss. Columbus East graduate Alex McComb threw 2.1 innings of hitless relief.

IUPUC will play its first home games in program history when it hosts Cleary (Michigan) University Saturday at Jennings County High School. The Crimson Pride will play at Ceraland for the first time March 10 against Concordia (Michigan).

McIntosh homers in defeat

Kyler McIntosh went 3 for 3 with a home run Sunday in Alabama State’s 18-7 loss to New Orleans in the Andre Dawson Classic.

McIntosh, a sophomore from Columbus North, is batting .342 with six RBIs and is tied for the team lead with three doubles in eight games for the 5-3 Hornets.
